Just got these little ones from Terry P. ......(draybar, your pics made me want one)

Spardawolf Feb 10, 2004 05:39 PM

These little guys came today. (I definately have to build a rack system soon LOL) This is my little female bairds. I can't wait to watch her develop her colors and get more beautiful. Terry really has some AWESOME snakes. Between him and draybar's pics, I had to get a pair. (My sister has the male)

That doesn't look like any yellow rat I've ever seen. Is it a hybrid?

Actually I was just kidding about the hybrid part. But its definitely not a yellow rat, looks more like a meahllmorum from the pic.

You're putting together a nice little collection. You may have to change your signature to "North American Ratsnake Addict":D

I am slowly but surely aquiring more North American Rats than I have corns. This is one REALLY addicting hobby.

Wow- that really doesn't look like any yellow rat I've seen, more like an emoryi. Sure you didn't get your pics mixed up? It's a great looking snake which ever it turns out to be.
Good luck with the new additions!

LOL, I guess the flash caused that spearpoint pattern on the head also?

The snake is obviously a southern plains rat snake and not a yellow. Maybe the pics got mixed up?

I couldn't believe when Paula posted that pic of what was supposed to be a yellow rat snake. I shipped a pair of bairds that Paula had purchased from me. She was real patient with me waiting for weather in PA to warm up before I would ship. We played the weather out and Paula emailed me that a break in the weather was coming over last weekend and I could ship on Monday. I had this thought as I was packing the bairds to put in a 0'03CB pair of yellows that I had since she was so patient to wait for me to ship something she had purchased earlier. It was a last minute thought, but a bad decision. I shouldn't have hurried picking out some babies. I emailed Paula and told her I made a mistake with the female and verified that the male yellow was truly a yellow rat snake. I told her I still owe her a yellow rat snake which I still have since I shipped the other snake in her place. I will be shipping Paula the female yellow in awhile. I told her to keep the snake I shipped in error.

>>Sparda,
Excellent choices. They are both great looking snakes.
I think you will really be pleased with the Bairdi.
They are cool little snakes.
You will begin to notice the pattern fading and then you will start to see the color showing between the scales and with each shed you will see more and more color. I love 'em.
They tend to be a bit more active then the corns and although I don't know about Bairdis in general, I can say my two are great eaters.
They only skip a meal when in the "blue". And sometimes not even then.
They did have a tendency to musk and rattle their tails when younger. Actually they still rattle their tails on occaision but they have never tried to bite and calm down quickly enough when handled.

Nice looking baird's rats you have. I really like that last photo. Definitely a good "converter" shot for the shy of snake. Cute little bugger. Occasionally I will have a neonate get curious like that, but most often I think they see the camera lens as one wide open predator’s eye. Thanks for posting those shots-Brett
