my best frend has a 20ft burm (unknown sex). another of my friends has a 9 ft male, that he is trying to sell. my question is, is how tarritorial are male burms? because of not know what the bigger one is i dont want to put them togeather unless i kno how docile they are twards eachother. both snakes are like kittens tward ne one holding them, and wouldnt hurt any body.
please dont think im ignorant in asking this question, i just donno, thats y i asked
thanx to any one that responds

If,.. and I'm using the word "if" very loosely here,... if the larger burm is truly 20 feet then it's HIGHLY unlikely that it's a male. But even if it were, I have never had any problem with male burmese harming one another. If, on the other hand, this burmese is really 20 feet and is a female, I might be concerned about it simply laying on the smaller burmese if housed together. A female burmese that long can easily be 300 pounds and could hurt a smaller 9 foot, 30-40 pound burm just by laying on it.

Hi Nevin -

Click here for a short note I wrote on the Ball Python Forum on the subject. I think you would run a greater risk at the height of the breeding season, perhaps, than at other times of the year. But be assured, whether the python species is diminutive or giant, male-male interaction between adult pythons can definitely result in injury for one or both.

Twenty foot male Burmese pythons are not common, even in captivity. Perhaps the one belonging to your friend is not really so long? Or perhaps it is a big female?

“Ignorant” questions are the best kind! If you knew the answer already, you wouldn’t be ignorant about something and need to ask! Definitely not the same as stupid. Anyway, you’d be amazed at how a male python who acts dog-tame can suddenly become Mr. Tough Guy when presented with another male. In general, it’s not a good idea to leave two adult males alone together.
