WTF eating GTF ? possible?

speterturtle Feb 10, 2004 06:38 PM

I have a WTF i would say about 1.5 inches. More then 1 year old. had him for about 8 months. I was wondering if i added a baby GTF in the tank would my WTF eat him as well? My local petco has some GTF. the GTF seems to be well shy of an inch. actually he seems more like the size of crickets i feed my WTF just wide-er. Well i was wonder since i read in some of the forums about bigger frogs eating smaller frogs. will this most likely happen.

No, it is really a bad thing to mix frog species. Not only will your WTF most definately eat the GTF, but GTFs and WTFs can be toxic to eachother. They are from different parts fo the world too. But the GTFs slime or toxins can kill the WTF,and visa versa. Second of all, i rememebr your post from not too long ago about your WTF being sick with possibl redleg, and you only kept the frog in a 3 gallon tank. WTFs need a minumum of a 20 gallon tank, and GTFs a minimum of 10 gallons. if the WTF infact had redleg,he can spread it to the GTF. dont even bother, just concentrate on getting your WTF better(how is he BTW?) and if you want to get another kind of frog, give it its own tank, and make sure it is big enough or you could have a repeat. Good luck! Ask away any questions.

BTW-here is a really good site for the car eof both WTFs and GTFs by a good friend.

Well i've gotten a 29gal tank, um.. that forest bed thing. the stuff in a brick form add water then it grows. got him a lamp thing as well. Not too sure what else to get him aside from the background paper and some plants ( need advise one plants to get him ) and some branches.

He seems to be doing a little better. Not as bloody as before :D
He was curoius of the tank at first and still is. jumped around. i think me attempted to reach for the top but only made it 5 inchs high. is that a bad sign? only been in there for liek 4 days. i threw him 4 crickets. he hasn't been touching them at all. I guess this is part of the winter thingy where he doesn't want to eat. Not sure. Anyone have feedback? or suggestions. I would love to take him to a vet. but i can't find one in chicago.

My frog looks very lonely and bored in this hugh 29 gal tank of his

Frogs don't get lonely... he's probably happy to have it all to himself.

but he isn't eating anything. 3 crickets were crawling in his fact like an inch away and he didn;t eat them. they are on him at times as well. he sleeps in the corner where the light is 90% of the day. when he isn't sleeping now he crawls around the tank and sits in the water
then he returns to the corner and sleeps.

if he isnt eating anything then he is sick or stressed, why push that by trying to add other animals the frog doesnt veen want in there? the only other animal id put with him is another whites, but if your frog is sick,he is going to spread it and your going to have two cases on your hands. you do what you want to do,im only trying to help your frog.

yes i know. i took your advice into mind. I'm going to wait and see how my WTF ends up. Any tips on curing him. Is red legs cure-able?

samster Feb 12, 2004 12:22 AM

I dont know how specifically to cure redleg, if that is indeed what it has, but i recently had a very sick wtf with sores all over his body, and hes better now. The key to him getting better is warming him up. Keep his cage warmer than usual, as the warmth boosts the immune response. He should be quite warm to the touch..but also have an end where he can cool down. Also, I changed mine to a hospital setup..an aquarium with plain white paper towels on the bottom, a dish of water, and a cup and other things to hide in. Change out the paper towels daily, change the water daily (rinsing the dish out), and wash out the cup or hiding places. also wipe down the walls. make sure you are using dechlorinated water, not distilled or reverse osmosis. if your frog doesnt eat teh crickets, take them out..they may chew on his skin and casue further infection. also, if the crickets are in tehre all the time when he is in no mood to eat, he will not be stimulated by them anymore. Just try a cricket every few days to see if he wants it. Other than that..i don't know. But it worked for my fellah. good luck!

thanks for the tips. I will follow your directions. I just got him half hollow log and some fake plants. The cup i'll add in as well. just for fun. Hopefully he does get better.
