One eyed chuck-- what kind of problems to expect???? Help TOM G !!>>

dvl Feb 10, 2004 08:01 PM

My female redtail ( Yes John--Redtails!!!) recently lost an eye------ well it was taken away by force so I guess she did not really lOSE it. It appears her good eye is intact & bright as Janets "boob propeller". But she just don't react to bright lites & camera flashes on the good side like I expected her too. She also has a he!! of a time when startled as she does not know where or how quick to turn & run. At times she does not react at all when I swing a foot right in front of her----while a few minutes later she will react & scurry ( a lil clumsy )under rocks. I know Tom Greb had ol One Eyed Jack----- did he motivate normally? I wonder if time will correct the loss of one eye & the "eye to eye" signals that their brain transformed into information to navigate correctly. Damn------ I am using some smart sounding phrases here ain't I--- should have been a doctor or something!!
One the bright side--- if she runs into a cactus at least she does not have to worry about putting that eye out!!! Plus-- I bet the male can sneak up on here now when HE's in the mood without concerns about her constant headaches & excuses.

Waiting on springtime & a cat free world.

David

Jack had both eyes that was just a name I think Eve hung on him. I did though at one time have a beautiful one eyed male chuck. I caught him out in the Coachella Valley(JohnE knows the spot). In fact that is what made him so easy to catch. I walked right up to him and picked him up. He had some other lacerations which made me think he might have escaped a bird of prey of some sort. He became dog tame and was one of the nicest chucks I ever owned. She should be able to live quite an ordinary life in an indoor setup but not sure about the outdoor setting. I could walk up to mine on the blind side and pick him right up and I do not think that would be so good in your setting as if another cat or some other animal got in there she would be easy pickings. You might want to try and contact Lindsay Pike and see maybe if you can trade her for a baby or 2 when he gets some. Your male ought to like it though since he can blindside her if ya know what I mean. LOL. Tom

Hey David, seriously, IF your girl feels like retiring to an indoor resort, in NJ let me know, She can live with little Hooty,(also female,) keep her company !

* And she can have the run of a rocky room anyway !

* And have her picture shown all over the world atleast weekly. (The good eye side , LOL)

* And they can OOGLE the BOY CHUCKS from across the room !! LMAO

Only if your gonna make other arrangements for her, let me know !

Eve
