Sick Baby Ball Python

marx_ista Feb 10, 2004 10:12 PM

Im completely new to the herp scene and after reading up on ball pythons I whent out to purchase one from my local petshop. I picked out a healthy, active and curious baby and brought it home with me. But just yesterday I noticed it was weak and and not as active compared to how it usually is during handling and tonight I came home from work and he just lays in one spot curled up and not moving. I brought it out of its tank and he seems so weak, his eyes are a very light color and I dont know if its because of hunger or what but Im even afraid that by tomorrow it wont have energy to eat. The petshop is closed already so I cant get a tiny mouse anywhere right now so I'll head out first thing in the morning to see if he eats but Im really scared it might die. If anyone can please help me out I thank you in advanced.

That's the beauty of pet shops. They specialize in emaciated sick animals. I would see if they would exchange it for a new animal or you could take the animal you have now to the vet and let him properly diagnose it. Also, the cage and conditions you are keeping your snake in would help us to help you a little more, as it might be problems with husbandry. It's sad when someone like you is new to the hobby and has to start out this way. It is probably the same for most of us here, so don't feel too bad. It's not really your fault. Also, try to contact people in your area who are herp enthusiasts who also may be able to help you along. This is a great hobby, so keep with it and next time buy captive bred animals directly from breeders.
