thegeckobarn Feb 10, 2004 11:42 PM

My first eggs of the season ARE fertile afterall!
I candled them one last time, to see, and if they werent, I was gonna toss em...and I saw heartbeats! And the veins had grown thicker!

Yes!!!

BUT..Ive got a problem...they are denting, and are really soft...what do to? The perlite is nice an moist.

What to do?????
Seems when I take them out, they harden up..should I poke holes in the container..b/c its sealed??

Can you describe how you candle them. do you use a small maglite? I have done this before but I usually only see veins. I have never saw a heartbeat.

If you wait for about 2-3 days (this being 2 days for me) you'll see it You can actually even see the whole embryo!
I just use a high powered spot light, since its all I have, lol.
Just hold it up to the side of the light, until you see the glow inside...and look right where the circle of veins are...there should be a vein going from the side of the circle to the inside..almost to the middle...and thats where your embryo is attached. Its a neat experience, ive witnessed it many times, and watched babies grow this way. The only thing to remember is not to leave the eggs out of the incubator for longer than 1-2 minutes.
