I'm pretty sure it's an impaction......

spec Jun 08, 2003 04:53 PM

But I can't see how it happened. I was feeding him mealworms but I was picking out the molted ones so they would be easier to digest. And he was fed outside of his cage so I know he couldn't have ingested any sand.
I've been keeping a close eye on him all day and increased the heat in his cage. I also went and got some mineral oil to give him. Have been keeping him hydrated all day. He seems to be in better spirits but he's obviously still in pain. The twitches and seizures have all but stopped.
Earlier whenever I would try to soak him in warm water or wrap him in a warm washcloth he would have the seizures but now he actually attempted to poop. He released a tiny amount of poop and some urates. I hope I'm doing the right thing.
The real reason for this post....
Should I go out and buy a black light or something to keep the heat up tonight and see if that will help?

Hi
yep mealies can give impaction i would avoid given them to them.
high baskingtemp 115-110 can help him digest better.
and a heatmat r ceramicheater for the night is not a bad idea either .
only for the nights he not feeling wel is extra heating not bad for helping to digest that hard sceleton of the mealies.
also the soaks you give is good shoulder deep and feel with youre wrist if its not to hot .
15-20 min and when water cools of to much ad warm water .
good luck .

when my guy was impactacted it turned out he had eaten human hair maybe two or three medium length strands probly mine,i think he eith got them from the carpet or when he was sitting on my shoulder but the mineral oil and water baths worked great, also maybe you should try putting him in water deep enough to swim across i think that helped mine, moving around alot on the water
