Problem w/ room temp in basement....suggestions please

tomsey Feb 11, 2004 07:45 AM

Hi.
My Ball Pythons are housed in Sterilite boxes in a melamine rack located in my basement. I have a space heater running to help warm the room.
The snake boxes are about 78-82 warm end, 90-92 hot spot(heat tape) and about 72 on the cool end. During the summer these temps remain about the same because of the a/c running (I do close all the vents).

My question: How do you get the cool end up around 80-82?
Do you need to have the room temp at least that warm? If so, I'm not able to heat my basement to that temp. I suppose I would have to make a smaller "snake room" that could easily be heated to 80 degrees.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Brian

Are you using a oil filled heater for heat in the summer months? If not what type of heater are you using?

The ambient room temp is the easiest way to get the cooler side to the temp you want. The other ways would include another line of heat tape to bring it to the desired temp aside from teh heat on the hot end. This would be a bigger hastle, but it may be worth it rather than change the whole room setup.
