tail question

reptilewild Feb 11, 2004 12:56 PM

Do all baby boas grip you with there tails???the reason I ask is because I just purchased 2baby boas..One grips me really hard with her tail while the other one doesnt grip me atall.Im not sure but I think there is a problem with his tail.To me it seems to be broken or hes just in pain.Ive been watching him for hours and have not seem him bend his tail once.Is this normal???Do you think that if someone probe the snake wrong that it would cause this problem???.Any info would be thankful.Neo

I can't answer all of your questions, but I do believe that not ALL baby boas grip you with their tails when you are holding them. I had an Argentine boa that never held on when she was handled. As for the tail being broken, I have no idea. If you feel that this is a possibility, then you should get him/her to a vet for an x-ray.
Good luck.

FROM MY EXPERIENCE, NO, THEY ALL DON'T USE THEIR TAIL TO HOLD ON... I HAVE A 4 1/2 FT BOA & SHE DIDN'T USE HER TAIL FOR A LONG TIME... NOW SHE SOMETIMES DOES.... AS FOR THE TAIL BEING BROKEN, I CAN HONESTLY SAY I DON'T KNOW...

GOOD LUCK YO
