dying mealworms

gyke Jun 08, 2003 05:29 PM

My mealworms (zophobas) keep on dying and I can't figure out why. They are in a large container filled with about 2 inches of oatmeal and I give them potatoes for water. Any help would be gretly appreciated. Thanks.

What are your temps? And maybe throw in some cheerios or other cereal too.

die in the worm stage unless you force them to pupate. (do a search on the forum) That might be your problem - left to their own devices, so to speak, the worms will eventually just die off.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. I don't have Zophobas much. I tried them thinking their size was good for my Pyxie frogs and Sugar Glider. Well, the pyxies eat them fine but the Sugar Glider raised a holy fit and crabbed at me all night. I don't know what she was thinking, or if she got bitten or what. But she did NOT like them.
To get rid of them before they died I fed them to my rats...who btw LOVED them.
So I just stick to lobster and hisser roaches, crix, waxies and medium mealies.
