Has my mali's growth been stunted?

Emichan Feb 11, 2004 01:30 PM

I have has my mali uromastyx for about two years now and she has only grown about 2 inches. I bought her from petsmart, and I have suspicions that she may have been wild caught. She was approximately 7 inches when I bought her, and now she's a little over 9 inches. I have her in a 50-gallon breeder with washed playsand substrate. The basking area is around 120 degrees and I have a 5% UVB bulb which I have been replacing every 6 months. She is picky about what kinds of food, but goes nuts over what she'll eat. She mainly eats mustard and dandelion greens along with peas and lima beans. I have tried to add a calcium supplement to her food, but she won't touch eat it if its on it. (I'm glad she loves dandelion greens!) I had her examined by a vet a little over a year ago, and she was given a clean bill of health. My question is: should she be a bigger than she is under these condtions after two years, or is she the proper size? Also, given she was 7 inches when I bought her, approximately how old would she be by now?

Thanks for any help!

sorry it took me awhile to respond....

from what you've siad it sounds like what all of us see....uros take forever to grow. if kept under those conditions, which are perfectly fine! but, as you've probably read....givin him/her diggable dirt is an amazin change....mines noticably grown in the last month that i put him on it. he is also much more relaxed about his suroundings. and hes eating tons more!!!! i'm very happy to see the differences, cause i didn't think he was growin at all before i changed him over. i would either change out the substrate, or make some sort of a hole he can go down in to hide.
