My beardie puked!

solfinger Feb 11, 2004 03:34 PM

I just received a female, 8 month old Beardie from a friend about a week ago. Since then, it has been eating well (mainly crickets, mealworms, and veggies), pooping daily, and is very active. I have a basking area around 110 degrees and I spray her with water several times a day with standing water available that is changed daily. I looked at her this morning and she had a very 'white' appearance, which I can only assume is an indication of an upcoming shed, but I'm not sure because she is still very active. I came in to change her water and attempt feeding her when I noticed a pile of approximately 3 to 4 mealworms that she had thrown up. Is this normal due to a pre-shed period or maybe I handled her too quick after a feeding? I did an awful lot of research before I agreed to take the little gal from my friend, and the last thing I want to do is something wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, it's not normal. Someone on hear can probably give more of an insight then I can, but for the time being I would avoid mealworms and make an appointment for a vet. (If this dragon has never seen a vet before it would be a good idea to AT LEAST get a fecal done even if it didn't just vomit.)

You may have upset her tummy if you handled her a lot shortly after eating.

How many mealies did she eat total? How long were the lights on after she was done eating?

If she ate a lot of mealies, I would cut back on them a bit. Also, you need the basking lights on ATLEAST 1 hour after a meal in order for her to digest the food.

Hey there! Sorry it took a few days but I've been busy. She did it again today and I've given her nothing but veggies since she threw up last. Is the whitening of her skin normal? It went back to normal appearance. Does that mean she is going to shed or could that be part of her being ill? She ate about 5 meal worms the other day. Per my friend, he only had her on crickets, which is why I think her system may have not been ready for the mealworms. He gave her NO veggies and NO mealworms while he had her, JUST crickets. I'm taking her to the vet today just in case, so we'll see what's up. Thanks you guys for your help.
