Questions on quarantining imports

poisonfrog420 Feb 11, 2004 03:36 PM

I am finally getting around to actual getting some female frilled dragons for my 3 males. I have been trying hold out and get some nice good looking CB females, but that is just about impossible. So I am planning on buying some imports. Hopefully from Ben Sigel.

The question is how far do the females need to be from the rest of the animals while the are in quarantine? I have all of my reptiles in the basement. The basement has a wall and most of my animals are on the other side. The problem is there is no door to that room it is just open for the last 10feet. I want to put the new females in a 75gal with paper towels and branches on the other side of this wall about 15feet away. Is this going to be enough to protect my animals? Also, how does every one deal with potential parasites or mites? I plan on taking a fecal sample to my vet after a week to see if they do have parasites and if so I will just follow his directions on treating them. I just want to know what I should be prepared for. Thanks, Jake.

i don't know much about frilleds, but I do know about quaratine. The animals should be in a seperate room from your current, unquaratined animals. The cage should be kept simple, not anything fancied up. As for mites, If they do have them, just get some mite removal stuff and treat them asap. The reptiles 2004 yearly has a more detailed article about quarantine that you should check out.

Thanks, can they be kept in a room with only frogs?
