Can someone straighten me out on calcium D3

mngrivera Feb 11, 2004 03:48 PM

Jess eats salad, juvi rep-cal pellets, and silkworms for added protien. I dust all with the exception of the pellets. She also has uvb lighting. I have have read that too much D3 is harmful and too little is harmful. Am I doing too much? I dust her food daily since she is just under 3 months old. What do you recommend?

You are doing fine. If you dust with miner-all, you can dust daily and not worry. If you use rep-cal with d3(highest d3 of all powder supps.) you can cut back a little(i.e. dust the veggies or the bugs, not both). With the feeding and supplementing schedule your using, the uvb bulb can be removed from the equation and you would still be fine.

Thanks for answering. I do use rep-cal with D3 powder so do I continue daily dusting only dusting salad or silkworms- or- should I skip a day between dusting of salad or silkworms? I also dust with a multi-vitamin but I only do that once a week. Thanks for all your input!

You can certainly cut back to every other day with rep-cal, especially since you also feed the pellets. Contrary to what you may have read, there is a pretty large margin of error. It is so much easier to undersupplement than to over supplement with powdered products. If you want to make the whole proccess as simple as it gets, consider the t-rex BD dusts. They are designed to be used at every feeding. I would recommend the veggie growth formula and the insect dust.
good luck,
Bill

At what age would you then cut back on the Cal-D3 suppliment?
I have an adult I think I over did as a juvi.
Thanks,
Karen Barker

I lightly dust daily up till 4 months of age. (When I used Rep cal calcium with D3)

But.....

I agree with Bill about the T rex super foods. I have even started using them and have seen some changes already

I am going to be doing a study on my first clutch of the year and keeping track of the growth rates, etc. My first clutch is due to hatch mid March, so the study should be up and running shortly after hatching. I will compare the "old" method of calcium sups and multi vitamin with the use of T rex super foods.

So with the t-rex veggie dust it will cover all of my vitamins? I read the discription on reptile direct but unless I missed it- it doesn't say calcium with D3. Is this for a daily multi-vitamin then I add a t-rex calcium to it? Thanks for all the in put- I like to know I am doing all that I can to insure their health.

Believe me he is gonna get lots of attention. Its gonna kill us to give him time to settle in to his new enviroment! But we will Here's Jess- I'm thinking of moving her setup to the next room so that they won't be flirting with eachother from across the room!
