Corn shedding problems?

Uncloudy Feb 11, 2004 07:05 PM

Today I noticed on my Creamsicle corn's head a large patch of skin on her head that hadn't come off for a while and its those couple of large scales on top of the head. They unshed scales/skin feels hard and crusty.
Right now I am soaking my corn in a water bath for a while hoping this hard piece of unshed skin on the head can come off, I think this piece of skin has been on for the last two sheds.
Is this the right way to get rid of this unshed skin or is there a better way?
Both my corns had shedding problems on their last shed, I think since I live in the desert the humidity is way to low for these corns.
I have screen top on my terrarium, What is the best way to increase the humidity in my corn snakes terrariums so I won't have any more shedding problems without disrupting the light on top?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated and helpful.
Thankyou
Uncloudy

>>You need to soak the snake in warm water and try to peel the dead skin off if possible. You don't want it to become several layers thick.
To help raise the humidity in the aquarium just cover most of the screen top and use a larger water bowl. The larger water bowl (kept full) combined with a little less ventilation can help hold the humidity at a higher level.

I agree with the last post.
I cover the warm half of my vivs with Glad Cling Wrap. This hold in mosture very well.

I agree with the other posts. I also take a spray bottle and mist my cages and snakes when they are going to shed. I misted my python and she shed much easier the last time. Living in Arizona it gets a bit dry at times. :0)
