a friend of mine has had these 3 adults housed together for the last 3 years and recently I received them.
The two females have old scars that he said thay had when he got them as yearlings 3 years ago. He also said they never did fight when he had them.
Every day for the last 4 days in a row the two females have been flat out trying to kill each other. every day around 1-2pm they will circle one another trying to bluff then trying to bite the other's head/neck and when they get hold they do not let go. Each time I have seperated them and removed one or the other from the cage for about 30-45 min then put her back and everything was fine till the following day. Today about an hour after putting the one back they were at it again. I have since put one of the females into a large storage container but wish I knew why hey were fighting so much. These fights are drawing blood and causing some minor to moderate injuries.
everything as far as cage size (6'x3'x3'), temps (140 basking 80-85 ambient cool 78-80), feeding (every other day with small treats/snacks whenever added in) etc are identical. they were shipped from Alaska to Ohio and got a bit cool because of the 2 day trip. They haven't been cooled for hibernation and have never bred or produced eggs. They have been housed indoors since '01 and appear very healthy, have all their toes, perfect tails etc. They do seem to think my ungloved hands are food but are otherwise very friendly and docile.
I admit to not knowing much about teids in particular but know a fair bit about monitors and reptiles in general. I was hoping to be able to keep this trio and build them an outdoor pen in another couple months. So any ideas about what may or may not be the problem would be greatly appreciated.
