is he sick?

aseret Feb 11, 2004 08:57 PM

my little dragon is about 9 inches long. We recently moved him and our other dragon into a larger house (60 gallons). We noticed that he isnt as much of a voracious eater. It is plenty warm and all that. He seems a bit skinnier, but he is growing at a normal rate. The past couple of days we noticed that he has normal poop in the morning, but at night, it is runny, and there is a very SMALL amount, as if he is urinating. The other dragon doesn't do this. He acts normal otherwise. We did just start feeding him silk worms along with his crickets and salad, as he was addicted to wax worms. Is this something I need to be concerned about??
Thanks for any help I can get...

My beardie's stool started to have more liquid in it when I started feeding silkies. The difference is if there is a formed stool with liquid or if the whole stool is runny.

If the whole thing is runny then there may be a problem but as long as the stool is formed it probably means your beardie is just well hydrated.

Agreed, mine started to have more liquid with their stools after I started them on the occasional silk worm also. Silkies are very high in moisture content.

The white part is solid, but the rest is runny like water. Thank you for the information, as I was a bit worried...I have only had the little guy for a few weeks, and I am SO attached to him...

Is the runny part clear or dark and opaque?

You're welcome, by the way!

The runny part is kind of...washed out black....really just like dark water.

It's always a good idea to be safe than sorry and I really wouldn't rule out a parasite at this point. Fecals are cheap.

Good luck!!!!

Just a couple questions.... were the two dragons housed together before the move into the big tank??? You mentioned that you had only had this dragon a few weeks. Is there a significant size difference in the two dragons?? Could the bigger be preventing the other from eating?? Or stressing him out in any way??? If he is new and just being introduced... I would definately get a fecal ran. That is allways a good idea with newcomers.

actually, we got the younger dragon before the bigger one. There is only a two inch size difference, but the other is quite a bit fatter. We watch them, and there doesnt seem to be an issue with the bigger one holding him back. Infact, they seem to enjoy each others company. The little guy seems to be feeling better, is more active, etc. We think that perhaps he was a little dehydrated and are offering him water as I have read others doing...with the water on the snout. Works well.
