Does anyone use these types of bulbs? Has anyone tested or seen tests to show if they release as much UVB as the Reptisun and others? We haven't tried them but have someone willing to donate them to us (so many free the others at cost). If they are good then this would help a lot but if not it would be pointless.

Let me know

Also do they work better with or without the cover as far as releasing UVB. They are where they can't be touched so it doesn't matter either way. Also they would be place around 12" from basking spots the same as the 4ft.

Also if not for the main basking spot would they work well enought for the secondary basking spot? Each cage has two higher basking spots and then other shelves and limbs throughout the cage.

I have to check to be sure, but I beleive that is what I am using. I use them without the clear plastic cover. I haven't seen or had any problems, but I do not have any actual technical information on them either. The only info I have is what is on the box and the answers I got from the pet store. At first when I put it in and had the cover off they seemed to stay away from it. I also made a lot of changes in their enclosure at the same time so I don't know if the light made them act weird or everything together. I put the cover back on and after 2 weeks I took it back off. They bask and eat normal and act just fine. I don't think the light was the problem, but I thought it could be at first. Anyway I hope this helps a little. If you find out that those lights aren't any good please post and let me know. Thanks.

I just spoke to someone this past weekend that purchased some of these fixtures. She tested the bulbs with a radiometer and with the cover on they emitted no UVB at all!!! She was appalled that in her packaging there was no mention of removing the cover. She retested the bulb after removing the cover and they gave comparable readings to a ZooMed 5.0.

WOW!!!I'm glad I took the cover off. I kinda thought that the clear cover would filter out the uvb, but wasn't 100% sure. Why would they put the cover on there if it filtered out the uvb? Making the light useless. That could have been bad thinking that the igs were getting what they needed, but actually weren't. Thank you for posting some results.

Actually I bought one of these and in the packaging it said remove cover to allow more UV or something to that effect.

So nya hehe... But that is odd

Hi!

Thanks and that is great that they do work. She can get them cheaper through her distributor and agreed to donate up to 10 every six months or course I'll have to buy any others but she's agreeing to sell them at cost and she gets to write off however much for donations to a non-profit corp every year. Guess it helps us both out huh?!

She is from a pet store but I have gotten her to quit selling iguanas and she has been providing much better care to the lizards she does sell after getting some advice.
