New herps...

snakeguy88 Jun 08, 2003 06:21 PM

Got a few new herps recently. I picked up a ball python the other day. He has a partial stripe and is a pretty good looking snake as far as balls go. I never really had an interest in them, but they were farmed, $15, my brother's friend was going to buy it for me, and I enjoy a challenge (these snakes had not eaten). After 2 days of trying, he ate two fuzzies today. Pretty cool. Then yesterday I got a scarlet king from a friend and fellow herper, Shane. On field herping, last night before we met up with Shane, Scott and I first found a barely AOR atrox. 3.5 ft, very pretty, and had been hit within the last minute to 5 minutes (only one car had passed us). The next find was an AOR, followed by a DOR, glass lizard. And finally, the gem of the night, a gravid prarie kingsnake! These are not exactly easy to find...it was my first. We kept it...hope it will drop soon. Andy

How big? I love snappers...I sometimes will catch 3 or 4 in one day. Of course most of the ones I find are between 15 and 30 lbs and try to take your arm off lol. They are def. one of the coolest turtles out there. Andy

He is quite small (and cute) He just ate a minnow. First he bit it in the middle, and then used his claws to rip the minnows head off! Quite the predator.
Anyway, I'm glad I've finnaly got a snapper (always wanted one). Good luck with the herps.
