Filter in FBT tank

zimbo Feb 12, 2004 12:13 AM

I Have a 20 gallin high thats 30% land and 70% water.
i butchered an under tank filter so it could fit in the tank.
the land portion of the tank is slopeing into the water making the deepest point around five inches.
when i turn the filter on, my toad gets onto land and runs to the side of the tank and stays there. im guessing this means he doesnt like the filter, but is there anything i can do?
there are some minnows and ghost shrimp in the tank with him, could this be a problem?
any advice would be appreciated..

I personally have a Duetto under water filter. It is silent and doesn't make a lot of motion in the water. My toad actually use it for a platform if I let their water go down just a little too far. They are about $20 -$30 at a petstore and come in all gallon sizes. Neither they nor I seem to ever know it is there. You can place guppies with FBT's but it is inadvisable to place any fish with FBT's due to their toxin.

I guess every toad is different. I have a Fluval filter with my Firebelieds which creates a bit of a current and splashes on a rock. They seem to like it though. They get on the filter and pat their foot where the water squirts out sometimes. Sometimes they sit on the rock where the water hits and just sit there for a few minutes. Maybe your filter is too loud, is the filter completely submersed?

OOPS just realized you have your set up under tank, sorry I just woke up. Well iI agree with the other person that replied the submersible filters seem to work well, sorry.

I also run a Duetto and another pump for strictly moving water. Mine have never minded and they are always getting into the streams of water on the waterfalls. They are both quiet but do make a small amount of noise and the waterfalls make noise.

I can say however, I used to put Guppies in the water and there was never a problem, once in a while the toads would make a meal of them. Once though, I had a fish in my fish aquarium, he was a little too aggressive for the guppies so I put him in the toad's water. Well, they all high tailed it to high ground and refused to go in the water until that fish was gone. I saw the fish trying to bite the toes of one poor toad that was brave to get in the water. I removed that fish immediately.

Hope this helps.
