Largest Yellow-Tail Cribo/Drymarchon Corais Corais

areyoudown7 Feb 12, 2004 02:30 AM

I've often been curious about witnessed sightings of giants snakes. I recall in the "Book of Guiness" a 37 ft Anaconda was captured measured but, then later escaped. Just out of curiousity I've often wondered about claim of Yellow-Tails Cribo/"corais corais" reaching lengths of 10ft.

So what is the largest Yellow-Tail this forum has witnessed. Does anyone have pics of their largest Yellow-Tails?

I have a female now well over 8' and had another female (bobby lee has her now) that was about 8.5' Males get larger.

I have photos from Terry V. of male close to 9.5' photographed in the wild in Peru. It was measured several times for accuracy and released.

Unfortunately, I can't share these photos, as Reptiles magazine has rights to them.

Dean,
That female I got from you last year is over 8 feet....and still "mean as a snake."

DeanAlessandrini Feb 12, 2004 08:41 AM

That snake is going to lay like a billion eggs.
My 6'6" female laid 21 on 2003(19 were good). I can only imagine what that 8' + snake will lay.

That snake is pretty young too...should have a lot of good reproducing years ahead of her.

The previous owner lost his male by the time she was breeding size and she was just fed and grew...no breeding attempts. The smaller male you got from me is the "son" of the other big female I still have.

That snake's a B*tch though isn't she? She'll lull you into a false sense of security and then take a "shot" at you. She's hours of fun !! LOL

Yep, she's a very impressive animal. That little male is growing like a weed, too. I think he'll be ready next year.

I'm not real sure what I'm going to do with a billion baby Y/Ts though.

I'll take a million or so You need to post a pic of those animals if you can especially the big female.

Yes, the article for Reptiles mag. has been accepted.
It will have photos from me, Terry V. and Don Border.

Unfort...they had the magazine booked for a solid year in advance, so it probably won't hit until 2005 unless something else falls through.

Keith Hillson Feb 12, 2004 10:43 AM

I like Reptiles Mag in general but Im sure they could drop one of those 5 Iguana articles they have planned for 2004 and put that YT article in LOL.

Dean,

could you share photos of your large 8ft and 8.5ft specimens. That's awesome. I've not seen them that big. The biggest I've seen are Chuck Elliots when I used to spend time with his animals

Dean,

It was 9' 3" that we captured in Peru. Hope I didn't give you the wrong measurement.

Louis Porras says he saw imports eleven feet long back in the late sixties and early seventies.

Cheers, TV

no...I have everything as you told me...I just didn't have the info handy to look at!

Sorry it doesn't look like it will be published until 2005, but those pics were great. I love the ones of it resting in the natural habitat!

Keith Hillson Feb 12, 2004 05:40 PM

Dean

Cant you just email me a pic of that big YT in the wild ? It will suck having to wait till sometime in 2005.

They were on 35 mm slides, and Reptiles actually has them in their possesion...

I cannot believe no one has a pic to show of an 8ft - 9ft Yellotail. I would like to just see one with a background or person holding the snake showing it's true size. All I've seen here is claims or pics displaying snakes that could be 6ft, 7ft, 8ft, or even 4ft. I guess I can say one thing Chuck Elliot had several true 8ft Corais/Yellowtails and (1) 7.5ft to 8ft Blacktail/Melanarus which I personally held several times.

By the way I spoke to Chuck last night he tells me to say hello to those folks that own his Drymarchon or Drymarchon offspring. I'm curious because I just picked up my first pair of W/C Yellowtails this week and I'm worming them as we speak. The female is between 66"/5'6" and just striking with this bright yellowtail against a dark olive anterior. The Male is about 76"/6'4" and with a darker phase anterior with banded bright yellow & olvie markings.

I'm excited to see how they do.

I'll keep you posted on how they are doing these next couple of months.
