Temp Gun ??'s

BigFil Feb 12, 2004 01:00 PM

I heard that quite a few of you are using infared temp guns over here in the Monitor forum so I figured I would check with you guys. I'm interested in getting a temp gun to monitor the temps in my two BD enclosures. First, can ambient temps be measured or just surface temps? Second, LLLreptile currently has a sale on a temp gun that looks identical to the ProExotics one, are there any differences between the two?

Im sure you can get ambients but not as accurate as surface temps. The LLL ones are the same exact ones as Proexotics'. I have had both theirs and Radio Shacks and personally preffered the Radio Shack one much better. Its a bit more expensive but I found it more accurate and easier to "shoot" and get temps through mesh. Plus comes with a nifty belt clip.

LLL is one of our larger dealers of Temp Guns, we provide the Temp Guns to them, and they are running a great sale right now, you should take advantage : )

as for the Radio Shack model, that is funny, as we used that model a few years ago, and while it is a fine piece, i felt we could, and did, improve upon it with our new unit, that is why we made the switch.

Pro Exotics Reptiles

Thanks Robyn. I went ahead and ordered one after calling LLL and asking if the one they were offering on sale also came with the case and extra battery. You gotta be careful ordering stuff on the net sometimes because I could see someone offering at a lower price and claiming it's the same unit, but without the extras. Thanks again and I look forward to using it.

Robyn, Its not funny at all. I do prefer my old radio shack one to your temp gun.I also preffered Coca-Cola classic to new improved Coke, so go figure.I have your temp gun too. No big deal though its just a temp gun, any will do really.

the important thing is that folks GET a Temp Gun, because it is such a valuable tool, especially when you are learning about reptiles.

better yet when you have more than one, thanks

Pro Exotics Reptiles

IMHO the Pro Exotic temp guns are just as good if not better then the Radio Shack version. Also I agree with Robyn on there importance. I also feel it is important to support those in our community that give so much help and assistance, especially when their product is just as good as the national chain that does nothing to better the reptile community.

Just my $.02

You got it all wrong. I have nothing against Robyn or Pro Exotics.Actually the opposite, I've gone to them a couple of times when I was looking for something and have plugged them and recommended them a bunch of times.

I'm just getting sick of hearing all these good reviews on them, day after day, at least 2 or 3 posts on them and how great they are. So I just thought I'd bust Robyns chops a bit on his temp gun.

BTW let me know when youre running for president of the reptile community, you'll have my vote.

What do you prefer about the RadioShack one versus the ProExotics'?

Bodhisdad Feb 13, 2004 08:36 PM

I just got one a week ago from P.E. and it works as promised enough said. Herpers should support herpers.

The size.Where the triggers located. Goes through mesh and hits the basking spot usually on the first try. Accuracy. Again I use both and am happy with both, plus pro's is less expensive and comes with an extra battery, so go at it.
