Housing Question

Dedalus Feb 12, 2004 02:27 PM

As some of you know I just got a full growm male beardie. He's eating well has a nice basking area around 105f. He's currently housed in a standard 90 gal. He's doing great nice and active and he loves to come out and watch TV.

I was thinking about getting a female for him. I'm going to purchase her as a juvie and raise her in a smaller enclosure. I was wondering if when she gets old enough could I house her with him on a daily basis or the would the stress level and constant breeding attempts be to much.

The general answer is NO
If they are housed together permanently she will get pregnant over and over again. Are you prepared to deal with that?
If so than your other consideration is stress to both of them. If he is an agressive breeder and chases her all the time and she does not want to breed, it will stress the both of them to the point of probable illness for both. If the enclosure is large enough and they continually get along then you shouold be ok. (always have a spare enclosure in case they need seperation)
