Few Quick Questions Regarding various species

hippieslh Feb 12, 2004 10:19 PM

Hello all, you could say I am new here but not new. I've roamed the many pages here at kingsnake.com but never registered until today. My collevtion has quickly grown and will continue to, so I thought I'd join a group that all had the same things in common. Well, to get to the reason I am writting this message for and that is I had a couple of questions regarding different things. Some of these may be species specific so I will also be posting to that individual group if available.

#1. Does residential window glass block out most or all of the UVB rays that are beneficial to many if not all reptile species? See, have all screen chameleon cage and was wondering if putting by window would help there UVB exposure levels.

#2 Also, what are the UVB requirements in regards to Leopard Geckos? I have the Zoo Medd pamphlet on this particular species of Gecko and it doesn't mention anything in regards to full-spectrum lighting.

#3 What is the easiest or preferred way of getting a young ball python to switch from eating live mice over to F/T mice? I've always been big on the F/T idea but the person I received the python from already had the guy on live prey.

#4 Do Veiled Chameleons make any type of noise? One of the three I have was making a whistle noise now and then for about an hour. I was worried it may be a health concern but he looks healthy, is eating, drinking, alert and active so I ruled this out for now.

Thanks for your time, all. Feel free to answer any or all of these questions either here or via e-mail. I look forward to reading each response received.

Thanks,
Stacey

"The serpent crams itself with animal life that is often warm and vibrant, to prolong an existence in which we detect no joy and no emotion. It reveals the depth to which evolution can sink when it takes the downward path and strips animals to the irreducible minimum able to perpetuate a predatory life in its naked horror."
