Turtle/ tort??

demiturtle Feb 12, 2004 10:29 PM

My biology teacher has a female african tortois and a male eastern box turtle. Both once had mates, but the mates died. Yesterday, he let them roam around during class and all the sudden the box turtle started courting the african. He "got a home-run" shall we say. Is it possible for them to conceive and have "east african box turtoises"? Thanks.

Highly doubtful. They aren't even too closely related and are from totally different ecosystems on totally different continents. They can breed all they want, but I highly doubt that anything will come of it (other than slugs probably).
