eggs are still denting

thegeckobarn Feb 12, 2004 11:58 PM

The eggs are now all wrinkled up on the bottom, and denting.
Should I just leave them be, and pray they dont dent any further?
Ive taken away some moisture, even added some...and some air holes. Added more ventilation to the incubator...and even tried sealing everything..nothing is working.

Ive tried the trick with the moist papertowel before..and it just rotted my eggs..so im afraid to do that.

What do I do??

If they "rotted" when you used the paper towels, they were infertile. Fertile eggs would not have gone bad. If you're not sure, candle them to find out if they are good.

I had some eggs laid on January 22.I check on them a few days ago and they had dented. I candled them ass soon as the were laid and they were very much alive. I took the out of the incubator and they popped back up. I was thinking I had too much humidity but none of my other fertile eggs have fallen like this, after I put them back in the incubator the next day they had collapsed again. I tried leaving them in a deli cup in my rack system close to the heat tape the popped up and fell again. I decided their is no way they are gonna hatch, I cut the eggs open this morning and the embryo was stuck to the bottom of them egg instead of the top. Is this your females first year laying? This was mines first year. I was guessing she may have rolled them or something could have happened before I got them marked. I was sad after seeing their was an embryo and these weren't just dud's. The thing you were saying about rotting could just be that they were soaking up a lot of humidity. I'd say try them and if they turn yellow and smell toss-em.

They are DEFINITELY fertile, I see the embryo. And this is actually her 2nd year breeding, she has produced 2 viable eggs before, but with a different male.
I have had eggs colapse like this before..but most were near the end of the incubation period..so they hatched before they could totally colapse..but these are only 4 days old.

Im not sure what to do...there ARE embryo's in there, im 100% positive. Do you think they will continue to colapse and eventually kill the embryo??

I think if they continue to collapse they will drown, no doubt. If you have tried everything like I did then there's really nothing you can do, and as much as it suck nature will just have to take it's course.

well I guess we will see..I dont know how far they will dent, only the bottoms are dented from where the perlite pushes onto it, the tops look perfectly round.
My other eggs dented quite a bit..but the babies managed to survive quite well..some even a few weeks of being almost completely caved in. So perhaps these will make it, I will just let them be, and if its ment to happen, it will.

if an egg dents that is not infertile or dead the damp paper towel will fix it. a fertile egg that dents is denting due to lack of moisture. A fertile egg will resist mold and most all bad things that could happen to it. A non-fertile egg will most always collapse and mold no matter what you do. I would just consider them unfertile, but leave them in until they get to the point you know they are dead.

LOL...I KNOW they are fertile..I see little heartbeats.
Im trying the papertowel now, hope it helps. If not, perhaps they can make it on their own, since they're fertile, im NOT throwing them out unless they COMPLETELY colapse.

also..I did the papertowel thing overnight..and it didnt seem to help. But I must say...they dont appear to be denting any further..but I could be wrong.
