tubs for adults

zigor Feb 13, 2004 07:05 AM

I currently house my ball pythons in a rubbermaid tub rack system. The size of each Rubbermaid #2221 tub is 22 1/4" x 16 1/4" x 5 3/4" tall. Im going to build a rack system with larger tubs and belly heat for my breeders. Ive been to a couple homedepots and walmarts and all the tubs they have are not proper size for a rack system.

I was wondering what size sterilite or rubbermaid tub is good for adult ball pythons (model number) and i'd also like to know if there are any websites that i could order from. i'd rather pay shipping than waste another afternoon looking for tubs.

thanks

The Sterilite #1760 is a good size for adults. I don't have the exact dimensions but it is right around 35"x17"x6". I think Sterilite has discontinued this model but you can still find them out there. I don't know anyplace specific to order from. What I did was contact a local hardware store and they special ordered them for me.

Hope this helps,
George

For juvies and smaller adults, I use the 32-quart Sterilite boxes. For the largest of females however, I use the Sterilite 48-quart tub (the Iris CB-70 I believe) is about the same dimensions. The 32-quart Sterilite is 23"L x 17"W x 6"H, and the 48-quart is the same dimensions but 35"L versus 23".
I get the 32-quart tubs at Target and the 48-quart tubs at Meijer (I've heard that some Wal-Mart stores carry the 48-quart tubs as well although I've personally never run across them).
Good luck,

Sean of ballpythonmorphs.com was nice enough to post a while back that Sam’s club recently had a monster tub on sale that is roughly 36 X 24 X 5. I had already purchased some of the Sterilite 35 X 17 X 6 tubs when I got a 3 pack (about $18) of the bigger ones from Sam's. I really like the extra width (it also works out well for the 24" hollow core doors I'm going to use in rack construction) so I'm hoping to make it back in time to pick up another 6. The only knock on these is the low height (probably a couple inches less than my ideal) but the lid is such that it adds a little height and I don't have that many snakes and like to build racks that use the lids anyway. They really look like a lot of space compared to any other box I've seen, even the 17" wide ones you see all over.

Don't know model number, but I saw a sterilite recently at a store that would be perfect. It was 6" high, about 32 inches long, and roughly 15 inches wide. Smooth corners in interior and base (good for sliding well in a rack system). They were $6.99 each. Great deal.
