Hi Everyone,

We happen to have a Gold Gecko in our possession. Although, Many lizard families down to the species level come this way, this is our first experience with Geckos. Any personal observations, tips, etc. would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello, the Gekko vittatus or Malaysian Golden Gecko is very similiar to the Tokay Gecko or Gekko gecko in care requirements. They will do well in a tropical/forest terrarium setup. The enclosure should be sprayed daily avoiding to directly spray the gecko. A screen lid is necessary to prevent stagnant air and keep the geckos from escaping. A temperature gradient of 75-85F with a basking spot of about 95F will help the gecko to thermoregulate. A 10 gallon will suffice but a 20 gallon high will be better and could comfortably house a trio of one male and two females. The diet consists of crickets and mealworms, and requires the use of powdered calcium and vitamin supplements. The many Gekko species breed readily in captivity and will thrive under the proper conditions. Type in the scientific name to find care sheets on this species. Best of luck.

Hello Brian:
I've raised these guys in the past and the only other thing I can add to the info already given is that they also like a nectar mix on occasion just like you would make for Day Geckos. It's a great way to give them vitamin and calcium supplements.
Just mix water, honey, and banana baby food together along with any supplements in a jar lid. They don't need too much. It may take a couple offerings before the gecko realizes what it is.
I hope this info helps. Good Luck And Have A Great Day!!!
