Superworms

bigdee Feb 13, 2004 01:00 PM

I read that superworms get 2.5-3" as adults. I tried to breed some but most died I then I was told they where to young no where near 3" so now I put them back in tray to feed. Also the first batch I got was from a show THE batch I HAVE now came from the pet store and they where much larger then the one's from show, I measured the biggest and none where more than a little over 2" so do these worms really get 3" and when do I take them out to put in film canister to pupate?

Woah, I don't know where you heard that supers get to 3" long, but I don't think that's even possible unless you use some hormones.

2" is normal full size for a super and if you feed them like I do they CAN get up to 2 1/2" but sorta rare that they do (sometimes even I wonder if there's something wrong with my supers).

Supers pupate if left long enough, but you can speed up the process by isolating them. Choose the fattest biggest supers you can find and just put them alone (I don't like the film canister idea because alot of them die). I just use the mealworm tubs (I use the 100 count tubs) and leave the cap off, put some food in there along with a piece of carrot and treat them as you would your normal supers (change the carrot every other day, etc). Sooner or later the super will pupate.

Also, don't put pupae and beetles/worms together because they tend to eat the pupae.
