My lizard will only eat wax worms? Is that ok?

curlz Feb 13, 2004 02:37 PM

We got the lizard about 7 months ago. I've tried crickets, he has absolutely no interest in them, I've tried meal worms and super worms. He (I think it's a male?) will only eat about three
wax worms every other day. Is this ok? I do dust them with calcium. Should I be concerned or try something else?

Hi, I also have a few that are picky about what they want.
But as far as the waxies, they are great to put some weight on a skinney lizard.
And they are a nice snack, like candy, but I don't think they have much nutritional value to them, as far as using them alone.

Sometimes if left without a couple meals, they will eat a cricket for you, or superworm. Maybe he has not been HUNGRY enough !

I personally would TRY to introduce more variety, they love moths, seems to stimulate them, the CHASE !!

Are you offering the BIG adult crickets? Just wondering because some of mine get very excited almost when they see a big one,

I feed my crickets and superworms all kinds of healthy stuff, so I know WHAT the collareds are getting.

Hope you can interest him in something MORE !! Hey post his pic, when ya get a chance,

Eve

Thanks, I'll try letting him skip a few meals and get bigger crickets. My husband bought him for my daughter's birthday, she named him Kollar, then lost interest, so I'm his new keeper! What do ya think is Kollar a he or a she? Thanks,
Barb

Glad to meet you and Kollar, hahahha, I would say male, but have to turn him/her over and look at the vent area, the slit area at base of tail.

If a boy there should be a row of LARGE scales, just under slit.

If female should be small scales under slit, and can also have a dark dot on both sides of slit area. (some dont)

If you need, I have 2 giant pics, one of each gender, as an example. Just let me know if ya need to see them,

Kollar sure is a cutie though, like I said , love his feet,
Alot of NICE people here to help with any questions you may have.
Its a little slow now, but they will all be back, hehehhe !!

Take care,

Eve

and might i add she was also one of the healthiest i ever had!I never had problems with her weight but i did add calcium all the time because there meant to be really fatty, sadly i lost her to egg-binding due to my lack of experience with these little beautys
