I have been observing this for about 15 years with the Az. Black Rattlesnakes near my house. Go to the second page on this forum and follow it down to Nov. 4th, the post titled "cookin' babies has some pics of females in the "Family Way"

Thanks for the link! We too have been seeing this for years in the field with lepidus and willardi, with numerous additional observsations in captivity. I have seen male attendance with the young, not just female, and male female interactions that suggest coordinated interactions between the parents and their young. We (FR and I) have been theorizing about family groups and other social behaviors for years. We jokingly refer to them as "rattlefinches". There is a lot more to these great beasts than they get credit for.
