burm runny nose help please

snakeman4 Feb 13, 2004 04:23 PM

Hi, I have a 11' male burm, today I noticed that he has white to clear bubbles comming from his nose looks like he has a respitary infection. I dont see any kind of mouth rot or mouth infection. I found his femal mate dead about two weeks ago. I have had no problems with these two at any time befor this and didn't notice anykind of infection with her. I don't want to lose him too, But our back woods vet will not even see him. If you have any idea what wrong or what I can do please help me.
Thanks

Sorry to hear that you lost your female. Yes, this does sound like an advanced respitory infection. The best thing you can do for him is to bring his ambient (overall/general) temperatures up to a nice 90 degree range (give or take a degree, it doesn't have to be exact) and bring his humidity up to between 80% and 90%. I have found that these homeopathic forms of treatment are more successful for treating a sick snake than pumping them full of antibiotics originally made for dogs (baytril) which I have seen have tremendously adverse affects on a reptile's system. I honestly think that more research needs to go directly into developing antibiotics specifically designed for reptiles and their common afflictions.
