milky film around bluetongues mouth.questions??

joeyjoh Feb 13, 2004 04:27 PM

Does anyone know what this is. it doesn't seem to bother him judging by the way he acts. still eating great still active. when i got him three years ago he looked to have the on set of MBD with the slightly swollen jaw. since then he has been great because of the slight swelling he has always had just a tad bit of saliva that would sit there after he ate....any suggestions
any advice would be appreciated.
thanks, Joey

How does his breathing sound? Labored? Any wheezing? Mucus in or around the mouth and nose are often indicative of an RI.

no he doesn't show any signs of a respiritory infection or any kind of problem he seems to be in great health just some film around his mouth ....im stumped........what do you think

hey, my skink Hefner sometimes gets a little bit of what looks like a white caked on film on his lower lips, but i think it is just due to food residue that gets stuck on the skin there and usually if i wipe it off with a little bit of force it comes off. this can happen if you feed your skink lots of cat or dog food, because it sticks to thier lips and gums and can cause this buildup of plaque and filmy stuff. i wouldnt worry as long as he is otherwise behaving healthy. take care.

that might be it because i have fed him more dog food than i usually do. i normally keep it to once every two months but i fed him it three times this month already.........thanks

just out of curiosity, what else do you feed him?

joeyjoh Feb 14, 2004 08:30 PM

the food i give him include fuzzies, crickets, mealworms, mixed veggies, collard greens, mustard greens, grapes, strawberries, bearded dragon commercial food, cooked chicken, and dogfood........i try to keep it varied but crickets and veggies are given to him mostly..im rethinking the crickets because i had purchased some crikets that were infested with worms. I noticed it after he had eaten several..I treated him with panacur because he did get worms from the infested crickets..but that was last year. Since that incident I have been feeding him dogfood more and more
