ABOUT MY NORMAL BEING TO SKINNY...more *(PICS)*

bmills Jun 08, 2003 08:39 PM

I posted asking if my normal was to skinny, and some people said maybe, and others said no. I just wanted to respond to you all in a new post because that old post was a coupld days old. To answer the question if she lost weight drastically, no she didn't. She was always that little, actually, when I first got her, she was even littler. She has actually put a little weight on. Her tail just looks small compared to the albino, but the albino is older, and has always been that way when I got her. And about seperating them because the albino might be eating all hte crix. I have not seen the albino eat any crix actually, she did about 2 days after I got her, which was like 2 months ago, and no since...she just eats the mealies. She doesn't go after the crix...and then the normal goes after the crix and doesn't eat the mealies. It's weird, but they like different food. Other than her being a little skinny, she is very acdtive, and has no other problems. I think I might go try some wax worms for her, or order some superworms, but I'm affraid that if she doesn't eat the mealies that she won't eat the superworms or wax worms. Also, I put in 3 crix when their ligth kicked off and she hasn't eaten them yet, it's been about 2 and 1/2 hours. I put in crix everynight though, some nights I have to take them back out, and others they are all eaten. Here is some pics so you can get a better look. SORRY FOR THIS BEING LONG.

Please let me know what you think about her. She has been this size since I got her, maybe she has gotten a little bigger. Got her from a pet store. She loves to climb on me, and is nice as can be.

Well, by looking at the pics i have to say that she is skinny, but it's definetely not your fault. Probabbly she laid lots of eggs before you bought her, and she wasn't fed properly. I have a couple of questions for you. Does she poop normal? (solid, black-gray, and consistent). Has she thrown up?. Asnwer for me those Q, i will be able to help you. Also, according to the food, the fact that they dont like mealies doesnt mean neccesariluy that they wont eat the other type of worms. The problem with the wax worms is that they are really addictive to them, so she might get stock on them. Anyway, try that, also try hand feeding her...take a cricket rip the head off so a little bit of liquid comes off, let her lick it and she may eat it. It is a little nasty but it works. Reply me ok??

No she has never thrown up, and yes she does poop normal. It is not always solid, sometimes a little more squishy (sorry for the detail), but it isn't always like that. Please let me know what you think. Like I said, she has always been that way since I got her, and I feed her every night, some nights she eats, others she doesn't. And she is very tame. I appreciate you helping me out, thanks.

One last thing, she might not be that skinny, it depends on each gecko. I dont see wrinkles on her tail, so she might not be that skinny...follow that advice i gave you on the preivious message, and tell me if it worked

She DOES look skinny in the pics that you put up. Since you got her from a petstore I wouldnt doubt it if she had some kind of internal parasites. If she did have parasites then your albino would have them as well. If i were you, i would just get a fecal done just to be sure she is ok, and if it comes up clear then she may just be a skinny gecko.

I will try and find a vet for them around here and get a fecal done just to be sure. I have a feeling she is just a skinny leo, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

She does look a bit on the thin side, but what concerns me more is her feet in the second pic. Is that unshed skin I see?/ You need to get that off before she loses some toes or a foot. Do you have a humid hide in her cage to help her shed? If not, then you need to get one. In the mean time, take a Q-tip and some warm water and gently rub that skin off of her feet.

I very much appreciate your concern. She does have a humid hide, and I just checked her foot, she doesn't have skin on it. It does appear that way in the picture though. Both of her front feed have white toes for some reason, it's weird. Thanks again for the concern.

Glad to hear it was only the lighting in the picture and not left over skin.

I agree with a post below. Looks as if she had a good laying season. She will more than likely fatten up if you keep feeding her well. Try feeding some nice fat supers they are bigger and move more than mealies mine love them and get nice and fat on them.

bmills Jun 08, 2003 10:21 PM

Yea, I will order some super worms for her to try and fatten her up. I appreciate the help.
