Let me share my experience on shipping and anole to arrive alive (I shipped my Anole in the Winter time BTW with this method.)
Materials, 1 box, Styrofoam board ¼ inch thick to line box with, Packing materials such as Styrofoam peanuts, 1 Ziploc disposable sandwich container. Tape
Cut out the Styrofoam and line the bottom of the box.
Now cut out Styrofoam for all four walls.
When ready to ship open heat packs and line the bottom with it. Depending on what size heat packs you have is how many you will need. Hand warmers and Feet warmers are not enough. You can find larger heat packs at almost any sporting goods store. If you have the larger heat packs, I found to keep a temp of around 80 - 90 you needed 4 heat packs (This is in 20 Degree weather so adjust If it is much colder or warmer)
Now poke a few holes in the disposable sandwich container I poked holes all throughout the top and one of each corner of the bottom of the container
Line the bottom of the box in packing material and put Ziploc container In it (Well put the anole in container of course) and do not let the container touch the heat packs. Your anole could, and probably will, get burned if it is touching.
Now take the rest of the peanuts and make sure his container is stable to prevent to much jostling.
Tape it up.
Now here is where I differ with others. I took a pencil and worked a hole in each top corner of the box just enough for air to circulate. Some say you do not need to do this and that is fine if that is what they think, but I found my heat packs were not getting enough oxygen to keep warm.
To ship I used Airborne express due to the fact they are the only ones that “Allow” shipping of some animals. On the box instead of writing Live Animal Anole I wrote Live animal Green Frog. I did this because they do not like to ship reptiles (Many reptiles are very expensive and they do not want the liability) They treated my package with the utmost care and my anole actually arrived in Florida Green!!!
If you are shipping in the spring or fall you can get away with no heatpacks. In the summer use a cold pack
I wish I had pictures, but hopefully this will help you.
