OT: My first step into the world of java programming.

TheHypoGecko Feb 13, 2004 05:50 PM

For my first assignment in my java programming class I had to draw a smiley face and color him using java code. I went a little further and made him re-sizeable and added sound effects. Let me know what you guys think. Be sure to click on the bottom right corner of the window and drag it to various sizes to get the full effect.Smiley Face Applet

Doesn't work for me

If you're using windows 2000 or older, you need to download the java 2 platform from http://java.sun.com to run all of the newer java applets. It comes preloaded on Windows XP.

Like TheHypoGecko said you need to visit sun.com and download java 2. Here is the link: www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp
Once installed, close all browsers, reopen, and you should be good to go. Hope this helps a bit.

I did as you said. When I went to the page, it automatically started downloading. There was no install wizard or anything that I could find. I re-opened everything and still nothing but a big grey box. Since I am computer illiterate, can you tell me where to go from here?
Thanks!

The automatic download basically inspects your computer and then downloaded the java 2 platform according to what OS you are running. It should have walked you through some sort of install wizard. You can tell if the software is installed if you see a small cup of coffee in the lower right hand corner of you taskbar (right by the time/date).
I might be able to help more if you tell us what version of windows you are running (like 98, NT, or 2000). A couple of other things you might try are, downloading a newer version of Internet Explorer, or rebooting. Good luck!
