Any one tried feeding rabbitt pelets to Rats?

Kevin Ray Jun 08, 2003 08:50 PM

I have trouble finding lab blocks here. I am thinking of tring Rabbitt blocks that the local farm store carries. Any opinions or thoughts on this???

Doesn't have enough protien...I think you'll find mom's eating a lot of babies (or just not producing at all) or sick rats in general. Try a dog/cat food, birdseed, fresh vege mix. You may be able to use it as PART of the diet though.

Rabbit pellets are not any good. Some folks here use them as bedding to keep down odor. If you can't find lab blocks or they are too expensive, feed a low quality, no red dye, dog food. Just check to make sure the protien and fat levels are fairly close. If you don't want to do that, look back thru the post here and the archived old posts. Several folks have given recipes for mixing your own.

I use Rabbit pellets as part of my diet for my rats... but they get dogfood, sunflower seeds, bran flakes and a wild bird seed mix in with it as well.. I didn't like feeding them just the dog food... I found their coats got a bit too oily from it.. so now I use that mix.. added a cheap bran flake cereal to it.. for the vitamin content...
