what is the best plant for a veiled all screen cage?
it depends on your setup. is it outside, does it get natural sun light, or is it inside and does it have those uva/uvb bulbs, and what kind, florescent? how big is the cage
I have has success with pothos, ficus, schefflera, and hybiscus. I have used all of these and all are fairly hardy and my veileds all ate each type of plant.

We use pothos (golden, marble queen...etc) and ficus. Just be careful when picking out your pothos...don't put any other plants from the philodendron family in there as most other philodendrons are poisonous.
They should eat the plants so if they come from a nursery just ask if they've sprayed them with pesticides or anything recently and when you get home give the leaves a quick rinse. (if they sprayed them you'll notice a light white film on the leaves...)

...don't trust the person as to what/if they have been sprayed. Places like home depot, etc. get their plants in from elsewhere and have no idea what has been used. Even nurseries don;t always know unless they have grown the plants themselves (which usually is not the case). To be on the safe side a quick rinse is not sufficient. You need to wash the leaves, with mild soap and water, and repot the plant with fresh soil. If ti was a species that didn't eat vegetation I wouldn't worry quite so much (though it is good practice anyway), but with a veiled - better safe then sorry!

Actually, yes...you are better off taking lele's advice on that one...I think I'm a little bit too light on the whole washing plants issue just because my parents have owned their own large greenhouse operation for 40 years. I only say rinse the leaves because they hardly every use harsh chemicals on our plants...and I usually know when they have been sprayed or not since I helped with most of the chemicals and growing since I was little.
Anyway...if they are coming from home depot or wally mart...don't expect them to live long...usually privatly owned greenhouses that grow their own stock have much better quality plants.
If you want the website for our greenhouse it's......right here...

Hi Chris,
yeah, I'm a plant person (hort. degree, worked in nurseries, do design, etc.) so I think I may tend to "pamper" them! I never use chemicals either, I actually use "Sun & Earth" dishwashing liquid and water and then rinse well. I do sterilize pots if I am going to reuse them. As I am sure you know many things can lurk in a "seemingly" empty pot! As for having them live long..well, Wal-MArt? you get what you get (I don't shop there) but HD, if you pick good plants and know their requirements they can last just as long as any other. I think that some cham owners would rather just replace then fuss over the plants - I am not judging as I can understand - may have an interest in herps but not plants. Someone has to support home depot! LOL!!
Having your own greenhouse available must be nice!!

And the repotting is important because of the fertilizer pellets and systemic insecticides they use. I had a colony of stick insects killed bexcause I fed them nursery-bought roses. I washed the leaves thoroughly (several times), repotted the plant, and let it sit for a week in the sun & rain. But the systemic insecticides got them. Now I grow my own bramble for them. And one other thing: there are lots of species of Ficus. The common one, F. benjamina has branches that are too weak for a veiled. They provide good cover but only the ones over 5-6' tall can support a veiled. Try a Ficus alli.
Ed
you'd be supprised what we can get for wholesale prices...
plants, saucers for the snakes, lighting fixtures, light bulbs, fertilizer for the plants, heat cable, etc
sure cuts down on costs.
