red foots questions

justchams Feb 13, 2004 08:16 PM

Hello everyone,

I have some questions regarding red foots. Are there any differences amongst tortoises coming from Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, etc...?

I understand wild caught specimens can contain several parasites, is it easy to deworm them?, what are symptoms to look for in a healthy/unhealthy wild caught tortoises? (Is it recommended to purchase a wild caught at all ?)

I understand males and females can be kept together, without any problem (correct)?

How about breeding? If they are kept together will this occur frequently, hece dangerous for female(or not at all)?

thanks for all you help!!!

There are variations in them from different localities but the are slight IMO. My personal opinion is the ones from Suriman are the hardiest. Yes you can keep males and females together. Breeding is another story It isn't easy atleast not here in
Virginia. I'm sure the folks in milder climates have a easier time. I think most folks would recommend you buy captive bred. Yes wild caught normally do have intestinal parasites, worming is not hard.
