Ventalation?

Im keeping ball pythons in plastic "sweaterbox Like" containers. How should I ventalate theese? Is the top Ok or do I need sides also?

I noticed that if you try drillng holes in most lids of these type of containers, it ends up cracking. So I just drill a few holes in the side of the container for ventilation using a power drill.
