How many hours do your Juvenile Chams sleep?

shopaholic Feb 13, 2004 09:23 PM

My 7 month old seems to like to bed down earlier and earlier. He's not asleep during the day, but he keeps falling asleep earlier each night. Timer is set for 7:30Am-8PM. He fell asleep earlier by 1.5 hours today. I know that sleeping alot of the day is sign that somethings wrong. Do they ever cat nap? Or is falling asleep that much earlier something telling? Thanks-Maggie

Most of ours go to their sleeping spots before the lights go out...maybe an hour before...

They don't sleep though they kind of just sit patiently and wait until the lights go off.

We've come to the conclusion that chameleons are adorable when they sleep...curly tails and closed eyes...aww!

Maggie,

Luna sometimes crashes early - as of late. What I do is have the MVbulb go off around 3p.m. Then I turn her basking light out around 5-ish and that's when she goes over near, or to, her sleep spot. Then I turn off her flourescent around 6 or 7. My other herps like to stay up a little later (except for my stressed anole - she crashes by 5 or 6) so I will often turn off Luna's light once she is in her spot - sometimes she gets a little pie-eyed before and has fallen asleep with the light on.

I am sure that once it begins to stay lighter longer outside this will change as she used to stay up later in the summer and fall when I first got her. So to some degree i let her tell me what her schedule is. Hope this is somewhat helpful btw, Luna is just 10 months.

Oh, and I agree with Chris re: how CUTE they are when they sleep!

Hi Chris and Lele: Thanks for the reply. Well, I guess my guy isn't doing anything completely strange. You guys brought up a few more thoughts. Please comment if you can:

1. Is the MV light going off that early because of too much UV? Reason why I ask is I wonder how long my 5.0 light should be on? I have the basking light on for about 12 hours, but should that UV 5.0 light be on that long?

2. What kind of Flourescent light do you have in addition to your MV and your basking? And does that light being on 1-2 hours after Luna starts falling asleep bother her?

3. You guys are absolutely right, the curly tail thing is sooooo cute. Is there any reason why they do this when sleeping? To feel secure, to protect the tail, to keep some body heat? That is interesting to me.

Thanks you guys-Maggie
