Brumation problems--snake passing feces?

Sohni Feb 13, 2004 10:57 PM

My son has a '00 California King (we believe female, but not positive). She has brumated from mid-Oct. to mid-Feb. the past 2 winters with no problems, has always been healthy, eaten well, etc. This winter, she was cooled in mid-Oct. as usual. When I was checking on her and changing her water today, I noticed several blobs of something that looked like loose, somewhat mucousy feces. I've never seen this before with her, or with any of my other brumating snakes. She is drinking water, and appears just as robust as when she was first cooled. There is no apparent illness in any of the other snakes.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, is it normal, or should I be concerned? I'm beginning to warm her up, as it's the usual time anyway, but do I need to take her to the vet once she's at normal temperature?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

with about 75 animals brumating, i find fresh feces in a box every week or two throughout the brumation period. it always surprises me that we think we can clean them out by not feeding them for two or three weeks before brumation, and then one or the other among them will poop two or three months after i put them down. Based on my experience, at least, it doesn't have to indicate anything to worry about.
