Custom made tanks

DKiM128 Feb 13, 2004 11:07 PM

Hello,
I would like to know from anyone who made custom made tanks.
I want to make some tanks at 2x2x2 (feet not inches).
I was hoping to get some advice on the doors, I would like to use sliding doors or something that makes that leave the tanks very visable.
Also I just would like to get the small details as the width of the glass etc.

Please feel free to email me at DKiM128@yahoo.com

Thank you
Daniel

Daniel,

I made my tank to about the dimensions you are referring. I used 3/8" glass with a viewing area of 25" x 18". The top and bottom are wood that has been sealed with spar varnish and epoxy paint, respectively. I made the whole front panel slide by using a piece of aluminum "U" channel that is available at any large hardware store for relatively cheap (about $4 for a 4 ft. piece at Menard's).

I would recommend using 1/4" glass and having the edges ground, but I got my glass really cheap (edges already ground), and just decided to design my terrarium around it. I can send you some pics of how it went together if you would like.
