Ok, here's a question, then.

I was reading the article on Rhinos in the Feb 2004 issue of Reptiles by David. He said that some breeders are reporting great success with (This part is off the top of my head, I don't have the magazine at the moment) pellets (He didn't word it that way, but that's the way it sounded.)

What are your thoughts on this? I don't think I'd ever be willing to fall back on an all pellet diet (I'm talking about ZooMed's Iguana diet in this case), but it'd be nice to know if it's a healthy choice in case I ever run out of Salad one day.

my opinion- I prefer and use fresh greens and other veggies and think its the best way to go. However, I have pellets too. I use them when I am short on food or to restart an appetite. Currently I have been "test driving" the Marion reptile diet as a supplement. My guys love it. The down side is it stinks when it comes out the other end.
Some here use a commercial diet only and have good luck with it. One person is feeding about 100 lizards so it makes sense. Variables to consider are the number of animals to feed, exposure to the sun, proper temps, competition for food, time you have to prepare it, I am sure there are more. I agree with you and wont go to a pelleted diet exclusivly but using it as a supplement, a treat, just something new or in a pinch is fine and wont hurt anything. I am finding that if I dont give the Marion stuff the next day my rhino will hold out till he gets it or until his hunger wins over

I'm feeding 27 Green Iguanas and 8 Cyclura Iguanas. I feed fresh food daily..lots of greens, squash, parsnips, sweet potato, etc. I do use RepCal Adult Iguana pellets as a supplement and for when I'm away. I just started using it a few years ago when I purchase a female lewisi hybrid that ate it exclusively. She was healthy when I got her and remained healthy when switched to primarily fresh foods with pellets available. For me it's a convenience and the lizards like it so we're all happy.
