Different Dwarf Monitors

dubumb Feb 14, 2004 01:01 PM

Hi,
Ive been looking into monitors for a little while and dwarf monitors seem quite interesting. Everyone suggests an Ackies since they are very handlable. From what I see Timors are also a readily availible dwarf monitor. How handlable are these? They have very pretty patterns. What other dwarfs are availible? I am fairly new to monitors so if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated )

Also, if someone is nice enough to suggest a certain species, where could i find them availible. And what are the typical price range of timor/ackies.

Thank in advance!

if properly setup, Timors are the "invisible man" of monitors, you will never see them, and they don't dig being held either : )

Thanks for the reply! Yea, so im guessing invisible and handlable dont coincide

So that rules out Timors... What other dwarf species exist besides timor and ackies? sorry for being such a newbie!

I am a newbie too, and I have a quartet of yellow ackies. They have been great, fun to watch, nice size, handleable (they won't sit long, nosy little critters) and mine don't bite which is fairly normal for ackies. I know there are a few more dwarf monitors, one being the Storrs. I have seen these a few times on Kingsnake classifieds. I know there are more, but do not know the names and availability of them. Check the archives as your question is a common one that has been addressed before. Good luck with whatever you choose, but do your homework before buying.

So it seems like ackies are the best way to go. What is the best/cheapest breeder to get them from? I wouldnt want WC...

Ackies are great! If you do get a dwarf, make sure it is CB and not wild caught.
