got my froglets!

leif Feb 14, 2004 05:14 PM

I went to Black Jungle today just to get plants. Well, of course I saw all the froglets and my eyes lit up. I'm all set up now, so I decided to make the plunge. I ended up with 3 tincs (olemarie).

I got them home, set them up, threw in a couple of fruit flys and viola, they all started eating as if nothing happened! (BTW they are in a small sparse tank, not my new larger viv).

One concern I still have is temperature though. By the end of the day the temps where they are (my reptile room) can finally reach about 79 degrees before my heat lamps go out and it cools down a bit at night. It could possibly hit 80 degress. That is ambient room temperature. Is this okay? I think it's the best place to put them for now because the rest of the house doesn't get above 70 degrees, unless I crank the thermostat!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Leif

I dont know about the temperature thing, mine stay at about 74 to 76 degrees and about 72 at night.

I have a 20 H tank in my bedroom which stays a little cooler, and to combat that I have a aquarium heater under the false bottom in the water that keeps the water about 76 degrees. This is pumped up and down a waterfall in the tank and it keeps the whole tank at about 75 degrees night and day. I didnt know it would work when I started it, but the tank has been running for 3 months now with no temperature spikes or drops. Just added a pair of Alanis Tincs.

Good Luck!

Nice picture. I went with the tincs to start because of the color and also there size, they get nice and big. The small stuff will come later I'm sure.

My froglets are in a temporary tank for now until they get big enough to put in the larger viv where it's easier to conrol the temperaure/humidity.

Sounds good. 80 is ok, but not much over that. I keep mine in the low 70's and it dips to 68 or so on a rare night, but they never go much over 78. I've had good luck in that range. I've heard the max for most is about 90 and the min is about 65 or so. Not that there might not be exceptions to that rough rule.

Congrats on the new frogs. I believe you will be fine in those temp ranges. Most of my tanks stay right between 72-79. Though they do get a little higher at times, not much though. I am waiting on the weather so I can get my frogs, prey for warmer weather. LOL

Thanks for putting my mind at ease...

TonyT, you said you were waiting for warmer weather so you could get more frogs, then I saw your list of current frogs at the bottom...is this how it starts? A frog here, a frog there...before you know it, frogs everywhere!

Not to mention millions of FF's!
