My tegu woke up!

boidsntegus Feb 14, 2004 06:54 PM

My baby arg (July 2003), has been sleeping ever since I got him last December. Today when I was walking past his cage, I saw him wide awake and basking. I don't know if this is his first time out, or if he has been out all week. I check every night, but I leave home at 7:30 am and don't get back till 6 or 7 pm. Since this is my first experience with this situation, I wanted to get everyone's suggestions. He seems kinda sluggish and just moves from spot to spot taking naps. I would imagine they are kinda lathargic at first after sleeping for 5 months. Do they really wait 1 month before they start eating? He refused the pinky I offered him earlier. He drank for like a minute straight though. His tail looks kinda skinny. Is all of this normal? What does everyone else do when their tegus (especially hatchlings) wake up from hibernation? How should I try to phase in food to him?
