Reptile Relief safe for hogs? Looking for mite prevention strategy...

Tigergenesis Feb 15, 2004 07:55 AM

I read a post further down about the dangers of Proven-A-Mite with hogs. So I was wondering if Reptile Relief was better? I'm looking for a prevention strategy and product to use, and since I plan to add a western hog (among other species) to my collection I thought I'd find out some suggestions on products and methods first.

Thank you in advance.

I realize that a lot of people have problems with mites, but I take care of about 50 snakes and about a total 150 reptiles and amphibians, and I've never had a problem with mites. As long as you properly quarantine any new arrivals, you should NEVER really have any problems either. Keep any new arrivals in a separate room with separate cleaning supplies and foods.

I think a lot of people share the same feelings as I do, in that I do not like the idea of spraying animals with chemicals that the absolutely do not need. I personally would not recommend using that product in lieu of a proper quarantine.

Thank you for your reply. I too am always uncomfortable using chemicals around any of my animals. I just started hearing many people talking about mite prevention and began thinking it was something I too should consider - in addition to quarantine.
