Azureus tad questions?

kyle1745 Feb 15, 2004 08:12 AM

Ok my 1 azureus egg, that was laid on Jan 29th is still in the egg sack, is that too long? Should I cut it out? Its doing fine and the sack is still clear and looks good. Just wonder if they make it out most of the time, or need cut out?

Thanks,

Kyle,
Myself I would cut the sack and let him lay in a petri dish with just enough water for him to "slide" around in for 2-3 days. I am glad to hear the eggs were good. Hope this helps out a little bit.

But it is not bad to just let it come out on its own right? My first tad so i'm a little hesitant to cut it out. I have read that it should happen at about 14 days, but that has come and gone.

Kyle, I've had alot of mixed results with this. There were time that I'd let them come out on their own. Some would make it, some wouldn't. I've finbally resorted to cutting them out if they don't do so themselves. You can also try flooding the dish the egg is in and this sometimes eases their removal process as the gravity is changed. Best of luck!

I've been having the same problem with my azureus tads. I posted this same question a couple of days ago and got mixed answers. The tad that I cut out of the egg didn't make it. My other one came out sort of on Friday, and I got it the rest of the way out by flushing it out. That tadpoles seems to have something wrong with it though--it swims to the top of the water and then just floats down to the bottom and sometimes lands on it's back or side and just lays there. This doesn't seem normal to me, but it seems to have "perked up" a little these last couple of days. Anyway, this is my first experience with tadpoles too, so I don't know what's normal and what's not. Please post how your turn out.

I cut it out yesterday, and had a little bit of problems getting it out of the egg sack, but it seems fine now. Not swiming around a whole lot, but still alive. I put in a very small amount of fish flakes until my tadpole stuff gets here. So far so good.

The fact that these are the first egg clutches that your frogs have laid may play a factor in the development as well. Your first few clutches are "usually" bad. It is to my understanding that this is mostly due to infertilization though, but it could still be something to consider. When my Azureus first started laying clutches the eggs would do great. But as soon as they would break the sac and I would put them in a little water and they would die by the next morning. This happened with about 15-20 tads. And no it was not the water, the water was fine (I still use the same water with great results) The tads were just weak. Just keep pushing forward and your Azureus will be producing some nice strong tads in no time. Just my .02

So far the first one is doing well after I cut it out. This is from the first clutch.
