morelia spilotes variegata

kalinaja Feb 15, 2004 08:35 AM

hi,

i've got this nice lady for two month now ...
and i'm not not sure that it is a true morelia spilotes variegata ... so, if you can help me to check the exact specie...
moreover, she is quite agressive and affraid of me, biting and defecating on me every time i manipulate her...
despite my regular handlings i can't tame her ... have you got any "magic powder" ? ; )
it's the first time i have a snake wich react like that and i feel a bit disconcerted ... help, please !!!!!

thanks a lot !

Where are you located and where did you purchase it from? It looks like a reduced pattern jungle to me, but may be something else. Kinda hard to tell at that size. No tips on handling other than maybe a hook to get it out then just taking the bites and keep holding it. As for the deficating, a papertowel work if you just keep it's tail in it. That's what I have done in thr past. If you really can't tame it and want a tame animal. I am sure you could re-sell it for what you paid and buy something else as it is a fine looking snakes.

thanks !
I won't sell it at any price !!! even if i must use hook when she'll be grown up, she's too pretty ! ; )

i've bought her in Houten meeting (nl)from a belgian shop (i'm from Paris, France)...

it's not her agressiveness which annoys me, it's just i've never had a snake which was so "affraid" ... most were agressive but "confident" ... and i've always been able to tame them quite easily ... not this one ...

Her behavior is normal for her size. Carpet youngsters have strong 'fight/flight' reponses. She will mellow with age and size. Most adult carpets are fairly docile snakes. Just be patient and don't take her baharior personally

She should calm down with age. It's hard to tell from photos on the internet which species you have exactly, so go with variagatta.
